How often do NBA teams attempt more 3 than 2-point shots?

The below table highlights the sharp rise in 3-point FGA by looking at the number of games per season that teams attempted more 3 than 2-point shots in a game. Since the 2015 season, there has been a significant increase in the number of times this has happened, although there was a decline from the 2021 to 2022 seasons. As shown in the dropdown, the Mike D'Antoni-led Houston Rockets hold the record across the 2008-2022 period, attempting more 3 than 2-point shots in 49, or 60% of their 82 games during the 2019 season.

1 The 2020 and 2021 seasons were shortened due to COVID. Teams played between 63 and 67 games in the 2019 season and 72 games in the 2020 season. All teams played 82 games in the 2013 season except the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers. Their April 16 game was canceled due to the Boston Marathon bombing and was never rescheduled. The 2012 season was shortened due to a lockout, resulting in a 66 game season.
